This journal is friends only.

And if the love of a woman or two, dear,
Couldn't move you to such heights, then all I can do
Is do, my darling, right by you.

- Joanna Newsom, Only Skin

If you ever get close to a human
And human behaviour
Be ready, be ready to get confused

There's definitely, definitely, definitely no logic
To human behaviour
But yet so, yet so irresistible

And there's no map
and a compass
wouldn't help at all

- Bjork, Human Behaviour

Oh, where is your inflammatory writ?
Your text that would incite a light,
"Be lit"?
Our music deserving devotion unswerving -
cry "Do I deserve her?" with unflagging fervor.
(Well, no you do not, if you cannot get over it)

- Joanna Newsom, Inflammatory Writ

Solo Narrative Example

In the nights that follow his fingers dance a quicker waltz on the piano keys, building to a jive, a pop hit, ten short notes that pluck a fleeting rythmn on the high, tense strings of the viola, forming in groups of three, three, four and again. He forgets to eat. Sleep is light and he wakes as easily and as frequently as if he’d never closed his eyes, every time to rise and tap out a tune on his bedside table. On the kitchen worktop as he brews coffee in the grainy morning light, on the arching spine of his cat and finally - fingers aching with need - on the edge of the stern bench, on the black and white keys again, to play out the tune he has settled on, the one that fits.

In the sticky fried heat of the kitchen he translates the pop and crackle of hot oil on stainless steel into the same beat, picks out the right notes and holds onto them his whole shift, moving as if dancing. The day transforms itself without warning into a dance choreographed by nobody. And his feet tap, tap, tap out the rythmn of the tune he has learned, on sidewalk and steps, pedestrian crossing, alongside the river and up to his door.

Later on, his greasy fingers search out that same melody on the pad of his cellphone. The dial tone, the tantalising first ring.

For RP: A Long and Wordy Introduction To Me

Where am I?

You're in my OOC journal, which doubles up as my RP Examples journal for conveniance. But don't worry, you'll never have to see any of my personal business, that's all hidden away on friends only.

Who's behind this?

I'm 20, my name is Emily, and I’m a Creative Writing major at university. I’ve had my short stories published twice, one of which is long listed for the Pushcart Prize 2009. I may seem a little (very) scatterbrained and full of babble OOC, but that doesn’t leak into my characters unless they’re designed that way. I’ve been RPing in various forms since I was ten or younger, though the kind of RP I’ve done has shifted incredibly and I’ve taken long breaks from it. I’ve been RPing PB steadily however since I was sixteen, without any long hiatus. I’m well practised at keeping IC and OOC seperate, and I’ve seen enough drama in my time not to ever want any more, so you can trust me not to make any for you. I don’t play celebrity, but I would be willing to play an OC opposite a celebrity in a game that allowed that or for a PSL.

What can I expect from you?

I’m on GMT, and am online every night between 6pm and 3am. I may disappear between 10/11pm and midnight to spend time with my family, but other than that I’m a pretty constant presence. Really, I’m online a sickening amount. Like anyone, there will be times I don’t want to play, we can’t all be in our zone all the time, but I’ll usually be up for IC AIM conversations even when I can’t scene. When am I likely not to want to scene? Well, I can’t say, but it’s usually not too often and I’ll be sure to be honest with you about it, provided you’re not a dick about it.

Long and Wordy. )

I don’t feel like reading all that wordy bullshit, can’t you just get to the point?

Certainly! My points are: I’m GMT, I’m on every night, I’ll do my best to fit you and the way you RP, my length will reflect yours, I’m happy to write sex scenes or fade out, and I prefer to scene.

Who do you play?

I prefer to play gay or bisexual males, but have in the past played heterosexual females and male-to-female transgendered characters. I’d very much like to play an mtf transgendered character again if the line was good; it’s an issue I’m particularly interested in. My gay and bisexual males do not behave like fourteen year old girls, and I don’t believe in restricted roles of ‘top and bottom’ in sex or in relationships. They won’t be whoring themselves around unless the character is designed as promiscuous by nature.

As for individual traits, it depends on the character. I’ve played characters who are entirely devoted to intellectual pursuits, consider the library a good time and spend their days reading and drinking coffee, discussing philosophy with friends. On the other hand, I’ve played characters that are married to the club scene, involved in recreational substance abuse and devoted to their own pleasure. I’ve played priests, high school students, writers, doctors, homeless junkies, musicians, mathematicians, withdrawn computer addicts (by far the least stretch of my writing ability! Hah), and more.

I won’t be too modest, seeing as the purpose of this is to sell myself: Creating characters is my primary writing talent. I should be able to do most things with a basic template, and will only turn one down if I don’t think I’ll enjoy it.

And what about PBs?

My oldest and best loved character is PB Kaoru Niikura, of Dir en Grey ‘fame’, in his casual wear as opposed to in full drag or studded with metal all over. However, I’m not a Dir en Grey fan, that ship has long since sailed, and I’m afraid my knowledge of Japan is severely lacking. I play him, at all times, as a second generation immigrant, with as little first hand knowledge of Japan as the next American/Briton/Canadian/whichever he happens to be in that variation. I will never PB an Asian character as a stereotype or as a fourteen year old girl trapped in the body of a man, and find that approach quite offensive.

Otherwise, I have a few listed here. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and I am always open to suggestions. The ones I have experience writing are italicised, the ones I’d just like to try are plain text.

Benjamin Berro, Joe Edney, Charlie Hunnam, Miyavi, Ando Masanobu, Patrick Wolf*, Simon Amstell, Rufus Wainwright, Shinya Terachi, Robert Downey Jr.

*It has to be something fitting for me to play Patrick, as he’s not the sort of PB that can be squeezed into any situation.
